by Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is coming to Xbox Game Pass on July 24, Microsoft has confirmed, following multiple reports. And in another major Modern Warfare development, Deadline has reported that “plans” for a fourth installment in the new Modern Warfare series are in the works.
The date was initially announced during the XboxEra podcast. Leaker eXtas1s confirmed this information, and then Insider-Gaming also corroborated the date. Microsoft is known for making Game Pass announcements on Tuesdays, and that’s exactly what happened here. On Tuesday, July 23, Microsoft announced that Modern Warfare 3 would be coming to Game Pass on July 24.
Game Pass for Console, Game Pass for PC, and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to play Modern Warfare III starting July 24. It is not available on any other Game Pass tiers, however.
Modern Warfare III is the most recent Call of Duty game, launching in November 2023. It is the first Call of Duty game to come to Game Pass since Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023.
July 24th is also the day that the new Call of Duty season, Season 5, arrives for Modern Warfare III, Warzone, and Warzone Mobile. So it’s shaping up to be a very busy week for Call of Duty. Ahead of launch, you can check out all the new items in the Season 5 Battle Pass and the BlackCell DLC.
Looking further ahead, the Black Ops 6 beta will begin in August, ahead of the game’s release in late October. Black Ops 6 will be available immediately on Game Pass, but only for the most expensive tiers. Those who subscribe to the new Game Pass Standard tier will not have access to Black Ops 6 at launch.
As for the fourth Modern Warfare game mentioned by Deadline, there’s not much to say. The source of the information is an interview with Barry Sloane, who plays Price in the Modern Warfare series. The interview never mentions Modern Warfare 4, though. But it wouldn’t be surprising at all if Activision made another game considering the series’ huge success.
